Hutchcraft, John - Coaching/Basketball
HUTCHCRAFT, JOHN – Coaching/Basketball – University of Central Arkansas (1971-1975): – Hutchcraft was born in 1953 in St. Charles (Arkansas County). After finishing high school, Hutchcraft hitchhiked to Conway to take advantage of a basketball scholarship to what was then ASTC (now UCA). More than 40 years later, he still holds three UCA career rebounding records. After graduating from UCA in 1976, John coached basketball one year at Hazen and one at Grubbs before finding his place at Guy-Perkins, one of the smallest schools in Arkansas. His coaching numbers have been staggering. His Guy-Perkins teams have won 10 state championships and have finished runners-up 9 times. Girls state championships came in 1984, 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2005. Boys state titles came in 1997, 2005, 2006, 2009 and 2017. He was selected to coach in the 2015 McDonald’s All-American game held in Chicago. Still active as a player, at the age of 64, he led “Team USA 60s” to the gold medal in the Federation of International Masters Basketball Association World Championship in Italy.
John has recently been selected as this year's recipient of the 2018 Morgan Wootten Lifetime Achievement Award for girls basketball! This prestigious honor goes to coaches that have coached at the high school level and have had tremendous influence on the game and their players.
