SCANLON, KEVIN – Football – University of Arkansas (1978-1979): – Scanlon was born in 1957 and transferred to the University of Arkansas in the fall of 1977. Because he was a transfer, he had to sit out the 1977 season. As a senior in 1979, he completed 92 of 139 passes (66%) with 9 touchdowns and 6 interceptions, leading Arkansas to the SWC championship, top ten national ranking and Sugar Bowl. He set the school record for completion percentage that season that still exists today. His passes accounted for 1,212 yards, second-best in the SWC. His total offense of 1,460 yards led the league and he was named first-team All-SWC quarterback. In addition, the AP selected him as the conference’s Offensive Player of the Year, and he was selected by the Southwest Conference as the Conference Player of the Year. He was also named honorable mention, All American by the AP. He played in the Japan Bowl college all-star game in Tokyo on January 13, 1980. He was drafted by the Los Angeles Rams in the 1980 NFL draft.
